"Cakes" are fried up in pans all over the world with great vigor and variation. The French have their slender crêpes; the Italians, their eggy frittatas; we Americans, the good ol' flapjack. Beyond these familiar entries into the pancake world, we've discovered a breadth of options from around the world, including Pas jeon, or Scallion Pancakes, native to Korea.
Trader Joe's Scallion Pancakes (Pa jeon) are made exclusively for us in South Korea, and if you happen to be Korean, you'll be reminded of meals from Grandma's kitchen. These are egg-batter-based cakes loaded with scallions, onions, leeks, carrots, and oyster mushrooms. They can be enjoyed as a snack, an appetizer, or even a main course if that's what suits your mood. You can warm them up in the microwave, or, for a crispier texture, thaw them first and then pan-fry them with a little oil 'til they're lightly browned and crisp.
We're selling each 14.1 ounce package of four Scallion Pancakes for $3.49. You'll find them in our freezers.
