Sriracha Sauce

Sriracha SauceMarch 17th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Sriracha is named for central Thailand's coastal city of Si Racha, and modeled after the red-hot condiment that graces the tables at myriad Asian restaurants. After years of working to perfect the flavor profile, we finally hit the jackpot when we introduced Trader Joe's Sriracha Sauce in 2013. We sampled versions of this sauce made from multiple chili varieties, noodled around with spice levels and which seasonings to highlight (turns out garlic is very important!), and made sure all the funky ingredients found in the most commonly seen version were nowhere to be seen in ours.

Trader Joe's Sriracha Sauce is made with sun-ripened chilies that are ground with fresh garlic, and blended together with salt, vinegar, and sugar. It's hot! But it's also garlicky, tart, a little sweet and a touch salty. It's more complex than many hot sauces, and that makes it versatile. Suggestion number one: try it on a pizza! A splash will add a little kick, and a good drizzling will bring you some fire. Of course it also works well with all kinds of Asian dishes.

We're selling each 18.25 ounce squeeze bottle of Trader Joe's Sriracha for $2.99, a price as hot as the sauce. Look for the bottle with the fire-breathing dragon.
