Wild Mushroom & Black Truffle Flatbread
April 28th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
We could have called this a pizza. It is sauce and cheese atop a flat, yeasty crust. But it called out for a slightly different name, and since "Oh Wow This Is Really Great And I Think I'm Going To Want Another One Because Of The Awesome Mushroom & Black Truffle Flavor And The Way It Tastes With The Cheese" looked somehow strange on the box, we decided to call it Trader Joe's Wild Mushroom & Black Truffle Flatbread with Mozzarella Cheese. It's made for us in Italy, by a supplier in a small town on the border of Umbria and Le Marche. This just happens to be the black truffle heart of Italy. Coincidence? Not by a longshot.
Our supplier has taken full advantage of this proximity to the hunting and harvesting of black truffles, and incorporated them into a Flatbread that's unique and bursting with flavor. Wild Mushroom & Black Truffle Flatbread with Mozzarella Cheese begins with a carefully crafted flatbread crust and features black truffles and porcini mushrooms, a savory sauce made with still more truffles and mushrooms, and creamy, whole milk, Italian-made mozzarella cheese. Is it a pizza? We won't squabble over semantics (this time). We will suggest you give it a try - as a main course with a side salad, or cut into small slices and served as an appetizer. It's easy to prepare - just heat for 6-8 minutes in a 425º oven. It's easy to afford, at only $4.69 for each nine ounce Flatbread. And it's easy to find, in the freezers at your neighborhood Trader Joe's.
