January 8th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
These delightful, delicious, delovely hors d'oeuvres were originally developed as something completely different. They weren't quite right in that original incarnation, but we knew we had something, so we kept at it. And then, almost (but not quite) by accident, we hit it exactly right. And Trader Joe's Edamame Rangoons burst into our freezer case just in time for the 2012 holiday season. Initially intended as part of our seasonal selection, they proved so popular that they earned their place as part of our everyday appetizer selection.
Edamame Rangoons are wontons that have been hand-formed into the shape of a delicate flower. Crisp, flaky, and absolutely beautiful to look at, they're just as impressive on the palate. In a unique twist, they're stuffed with a pan-Asian filling of cream cheese, edamame pieces and just a hint of wasabi, so that delicate flower packs a bit of power. We've neither seen nor tasted anything like these anywhere else, because our buyer developed these treats exclusively for Trader Joe's.
We like to serve Edamame Rangoons with our Sweet Chili Sauce, but really, their flavor is substantial enough that any sauce is really just icing on the cake. We like that they heat in just minutes in your oven. We really like our price of $4.99 for each 6.5 ounce box of 10 Rangoons. You'll find them in our freezers.
