January 8th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
In the heart of the mustard capital of the world -- Dijon, France -- there is a moutardier (mustard maker) who's been perfecting the art of moutarde for more than one hundred and seventy years. And in the heart of the family-owned facility where the mustard magic happens, Trader Jacques Mustard Miscellany has been expertly-crafted, exclusively for Trader Joe's.
Mustard Miscellany is an assemblage of four flavor-infused mustards, each with an authentically intense Dijon mustard at its core. Provençal Mustard, infused with red pepper, garlic, sunflower oil and white wine, is excellent with chicken or pork (whether hot or cold), and ideal for sandwiches and salad dressings. Blackcurrant Mustard blends Dijon mustard with Dijon's other famed foodstuff, cassis (blackcurrant). It's spicy and sweet -- an ideal partner to poultry, game, and cheese like our Aged Goat Gouda. Chablis Mustard imparts the dry, mineral taste of Burgundy's prolific Chablis wines, which gives the mustard a deep, rich, and elegant flavor. And Basil Mustard introduces basil, the king of the herbs, to a smooth Dijon mustard. Combine a spoonful with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to create a memorable salad dressing in mere moments.
Mustard Miscellany is surely worth its weight in gold -- or at least mustard seeds (curious culinary detail… mustard is a member of the same botanical family as broccoli and Brussels sprouts). However, this is Trader Joe's we're talking about, so we're selling this 28 ounce collection (four jars, seven ounces each) for $6.99, while they last.
