Variously called bell peppers, capsicum (if you're in New Zealand or Australia), sweet peppers or just plain peppers, these are not related to peppercorns, but rather to chili peppers known for their heat. Bell peppers, on the other hand, especially the brightly colored versions, are sweet, and their flavor intensifies in every way when you roast them. And that's what we've done.
Trader Joe's Fire Roasted Red Peppers are just that, sweet red peppers roasted over fire. They're grown in Peru, where the strength of the sun's rays give these peppers a brilliant red hue. They're harvested, roasted and packed for us twice a year, ensuring fresh-tasting peppers – because we sell so many and there are multiple crops every year, they don't have a chance to sit on-a shelf for very long. Red peppers have more nutrients than green peppers (nine times the amount of carotene!), and because of their color, they contain the antioxidant lycopene.
Knowing all the virtues of these fiery field treasures, you're probably itching to add them to your next pizza. We don't blame you - sounds like a good idea to us, too. Especially if you pair them with slices of Ovoline Fresh Mozzarella - yum. We're selling each 12 ounce jar for $1.99, an outstanding value, every day, only at your neighborhood Trader Joe's.
