April 28th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
North of Napa & northeast of Sonoma, California's Lake County may not be as well known as its movie-star-famous neighbors, but its wines are at least as worthy of your attention. In fact, Lake County has long been a favorite "hidden" source for many of California's most prodigious winemakers due to both the quality and availability of its terroir. So when intriguing blends from Lake County are priced at $5.99* a bottle, they're definitely ready for their close-up.
All of this leads us to Overlake Red Blend, a mélange of Zinfandel (70%), Syrah (20%), Barbera (5%), Malbec (3%), and Petite Verdot (2%) from Lake County. On the nose, this wine is bold but fruity. That fruitiness follows through to the palate, where you'll be greeted with raspberry, cherry, and strawberry jam flavors, followed by a long, smooth, luscious finish. On the wallet, Overlake Red Blend's low price of $5.99* is sure to get your attention - similar wines sell for well over ten dollars. For wine of this quality, this is a real superstar of a price.
*Overlake Red Blend is currently available in Trader Joe's stores where wine is sold. It is $5.99 (plus tax). Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff. (If we could, we would.)
