April 28th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
On a recent trip to New Zealand, our buying team stumbled across this winery quite by accident. A fortuitous accident, it turns out, because it led them to a terrific wine find in The Pass Sauvignon Blanc. The winery that produces The Pass Sauvignon Blanc is owned by an American who has been a sizeable player in the premium wine industry in the U.S. for quite some time, and has more recently parlayed his passion for New Zealand wine into a broader presence there.
The Pass Sauvignon Blanc comes from Marlborough, the cradle of New Zealand's wine industry, and virtually synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc. Marlborough is situated in the northeast of New Zealand's south island, where the relatively cool climate features wide fluctuations in temperature, giving the grapes the advantage of a long, slow growing season, intensifying their flavors. The Pass Sauvignon Blanc highlights the grassy, herbaceous flavors that have made Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs famous. It's a crisp, dry, and aromatic straw-colored wine, with tropical flavors that are the ideal match for the grassy notes that give the wine its character and backbone. An excellent aperitif, this Sauvignon Blanc is also good with cheese and an excellent companion to a green salad sprinkled with Shaved Manchego Cheese.
We're selling each 750ml bottle of The Pass Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand for $8.99*, every day, a terrific value. You'll find it only at your neighborhood Trader Joe's.
*The Pass Sauvignon Blanc is currently available in Trader Joe's stores where wine is sold. It is $8.99 (plus tax) unless otherwise noted here: CA: $7.99; OH: $11.49. Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff. (If we could, we would.)
